Erie VAMC to host two free Dementia Awareness Ask the Expert Sessions

8/12/2015 (Erie, PA) – Erie VA Medical Center (VAMC) will be hosting two free Dementia Awareness sessions open to Veterans and caregivers on Tuesday, September 22 and Wednesday, September 23. Each session will feature a panel discussion lead by an interdisciplinary team specializing in Dementia and caregiver support.

What: Dementia doesn’t just affect one person, it affects the whole family. That’s why Erie VAMC is hosting two free Dementia Awareness sessions to help Veterans, their families, and community members understand dementia – everything from symptoms to treatments to support available in the community.

Where: Erie VA Medical Center – Second Floor Conference Rooms

When: Tuesday, September 22 from 1pm-2:30pm & Wednesday, September 23 from 10am-11:30am (repeat session)

Panel Discussion Presented by: Dr. Bharwani, MD; Nathan Doerr, Psy.D.; Stephanie Hohos-Mahoney, M.S. CCC/SLP CBIS; Tricia Stritzinger, LCSW VA Caregiver Support Program Coordinator; Debbie Wisinksi, Alzheimer’s Association Family Service Coordinator.

Reminiscence Activity: *A reminiscence activity will be offered concurrently in Conference Room 3 for Veterans while caregivers attend the panel discussion.

Who: These Dementia Awareness sessions are free and open to the public – Veterans, their families, employees, and community members are encouraged to attend.
