Erie VA Invites Community to Salute Veterans

1/24/2013 (Erie, PA) – Erie VA invites the community to get involved in the National Salute to Veterans Week and schedule a visit with patients to spread some Valentine’s Day cheer between February 10-February 16.

"The National Salute to Veterans Week gives everyone a chance to let those who have given so much to our nation know that they are not forgotten," says Voluntary Service Chief Karen O'Neal. "We want people of all ages and walks of life to bring Valentine's Day cheer to our patients."

During the week-long National Salute, Erie VA invites celebrities, sports stars, Veterans groups, military personnel, civic organizations, businesses, youth groups, schools, and local media personalities to schedule a visit and thank local American heroes. This event also gives visitors the opportunity to learn more about the important roles volunteers play at the medical center.

In addition to visits, community members, young and old, are once again sending Valentine's Day cards and letters to Erie VA patients simply addressed "Dear Veteran." These cards are being distributed to patients throughout the week.

To get involved, call the Voluntary Service Office at 814-860-2453.

Members of the media are invited to attend and can call 814-860-2097 to schedule a visit and/or interview.
