Erie VA to Host VA2K Walk & Roll Event to Benefit Homeless Veterans
Erie VA Medical Center invites the community to attend the annual VA2K Walk & Roll event held to benefit Homeless Veterans and to promote community health and wellness.
When: Wednesday, May 15 from 11:30am - 1pm.
What: Join Erie VA staff and fellow Veterans in a non-competitive VA2K walk and roll around the Erie VA campus. This event helps build awareness about the programs and services available to homeless Veterans while promoting health and wellness. The walk kicks off at 11:30am with the National Anthem, a few words from our Homeless Care Team, and a warm-up lead by a Navy Reservist. Health Promotion Disease Prevention (HPDP) representatives will be on-site to direct participants throughout the walking route. The Homeless Care Team will also be on-site to provide information to community members on how to get involved in supporting local homeless Veterans.
Where: Erie VA Medical Center gazebo located in the front of the medical center near 38th Street.
For more information about the VA2K, please contact the HPDP Office at 814-860-2695.
Background on Homeless Support
In 2010, VA set a national goal to end homelessness among Veterans by 2015. While this may seem like a lofty goal, Erie VA's Homeless Care Team (HCT) has taken many strides to accomplish this goal. Last year, Erie VA served more than 400 homeless Veterans in the Erie and surrounding areas. The HCT provides a wide range of services to local Veterans struggling with homelessness: everything from help finding transitional or permanent housing, case management services, dental and medical care, job development and placement assistance, and many other supportive services. These services are aimed to meet the Veteran where they are and help them get to where they want to be.
