Veterans Choice Program & General Billing

Thank you for choosing Erie VA Medical Center for your care! Our goal is to provide you with timely and easy access to care. As such, we’ve created this contact sheet to help guide you to the right department for any questions or concerns related to the Veterans Choice Program and/or billing information. Please use the guide below for easy and direct access to billing and Choice Program advocates.

What is the Choice Program?

If you are already enrolled in VA health care, the Choice Program allows you to receive health care within your community. Using this program does NOT impact your existing VA health care, or any other VA benefit.

On April 19, 2017, President Trump signed a law that removes the August, 7, 2017, expiration date and allows VA to utilize funding dedicated to the Veterans Choice Program (VCP) until it is exhausted. The VCP is a critical program that increases access to care for Veterans by authorizing millions of appointments for Veterans in the community.

Veterans Choice Program Questions

Call 814-860-2800 and select option 2

When to Call: If you have a question or concern about an appointment or authorization for a visit with a community provider through the Veterans Choice Program (Health- Net).

General Choice Program Concerns

Call Health Net: 866-606-8198

When to call: If you are eligible for Choice, and have been waiting more than two weeks to hear from Health Net for a routine appointment. Please allow HealthNet approx. 7 business days to call you after you opt in to use the Choice benefit.

Community Provider Unpaid Claims

If you receive a call from a community provider regarding unpaid claims, please ensure they have sent the claim to the following address:

Non-VA Care Billing Questions

Call 814-860-2800 and select option 1

When to Call: If you have a question related to a Non-VA Care bill from a community provider outside the VA.

Erie VAMC Billing Questions

Call 1-866-408-2657 to speak to the Erie VA billing department

When to Call: If you have a question about a bill addressed to you from the Erie VAMC. Please leave a voicemail and your call will be returned shortly.

Choice Program Billing/Credit Issues

Call VA’s Customer Service: 877-881-7618

When to Call: If a patient is experiencing billing issues or credit and/or debt collection issues as a result of using the Choice Program.

Providers

Providers interested in participating must establish a contract with one of the contractors, Health Net Federal, or TriWest Healthcare Alliance. Providers do not need to join PC3 to participate in the Choice Program. For more information on becoming a VA provider, please visit the Veterans Choice Program provider's site.
