Funding Needs for Patient Projects and Programs

VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION (Fund #1001) This fund is used to sustain the Erie VAMC VA Voluntary Service Program by financially supporting volunteer recognition activities and items throughout the year.

GENERAL PATIENT NEEDS (Fund #1002)  This fund supports a broad range of ongoing patient programs and projects, including the patient coffee/refreshment program, general patient needs, and comfort items.  This fund also supports the other patient general post funds when emergency funding is needed.

HOSPICE (Fund #1003)  This fund supports the needs of Hospice inpatients.  Donations from this fund are used to support the Erie VAMC Dream-a-Dream Program, which enables our Hospice patients to fulfill a “last wish”.

RECREATION (Fund #1004)  Funds are needed to support ongoing patient recreation programs, such as  bowling, trips/outings, canteen books, and similar programs.   Funds are also used to purchase recreation supplies, equipment, and other items needed to run the recreation therapy programs.

SOCIAL WORK (Fund #1005)  Funds are needed to provide items for indigent patients, which greatly assist in improving the quality of their lives.  The patient’s assigned social worker is responsible for coordinating any items the patients may need, i.e., bus tokens.  This fund also pays for transportation expenses, when possible, for Veterans who are not eligible for VA to pay for their travel to and from their appointments.

PATIENT HOLIDAY (Fund #1006) Funds are needed to purchase gifts for the residents on Units 4 and 5 during the holiday season.  Funds will also be utilized to support holiday parties and special programs for the patients.

VETS CENTER (Fund #1007)  Funds are used to support programs and activities for Veteran patients at the Veterans Outreach Center.

VISUAL IMPAIRMENT (Fund #1008)  Funds are used to support programs and activities for Veteran patients enrolled in the Visual Impairment Services Team.

PATIENT HAIRCUTS (Fund #1013)  Funds are needed for the Patient Haircut Program.  The expense for this is approximately $250 per month (2 days a month).

WOMEN VETERANS (Fund #1016) Funds are needed to financially support the needs and activities of the Women Veterans Program.

NATIONAL GAMES (Fund #1018)  Funds are needed to financially support the hotel and airfare expenses for veteran patients attending the DAV Winter Sports Clinic in Snowmass, Colorado and the National Veterans Wheelchair Games. 

HOMELESS VETERANS (Fund #1019)  This fund benefits our homeless Veteran patients.  Funds from this account will be used to purchase miscellaneous items needed for our homeless Veteran patients.

CHAPLAIN PROGRAM (Fund #1022) This fund accepts donations for needs of the Chaplain Program.

WELCOME HOME (Fund #1030)  Funds are needed to financially support any activities and/or supplies needed for the Erie VA Medical Center’s annual Welcome Home/Veteran Appreciation events.  The events provide eligibility and medical center services information to all area Veterans and loved ones.  These funds are also used to support any needs of returning Veterans and Post 911 Veterans and their families.

HEALTH PROMOTION DISEASE PREVENTION PROGRAM (Fund #1031)  Funds from this account are used for activities such as Salute Your Health lecture series, MOVE Weight Management Program, annual health fair, and the VA 2K Walk ‘n Roll events.

MY HEALTHE VET PROGRAM (Fund #1032)  Funds from this account are used to financially support any activities and/or supplies needed for the Erie VA Medical Center’s My Healthe Vet Program.

VETS COURT PROGRAM (Fund #1033) Funds from this account are used for Veterans who are successfully completing the requirements of the program. 

COMFORT ITEMS The following items are always needed for patients who do not have the necessary comfort items for hospitalization: Shampoo, body wash, shaving cream, denture cleaner, combs, deodorant (non-aerosol), dental floss, toothpaste, toothbrush, hand sanitizing lotions, nail clippers, name brand Kleenex, name brand disposable razors, baby wipes, large-print word search books, emery boards, shower caps, and relaxation music CDs.  Groups may make a project and provide us with ready-to-go kits (large zip-lock plastic bags) using the trial size or personal size items.  We will accept EZ grip puzzles. 

At this time we are NOT accepting any type of medical equipment, cologne, mouth wash, aerosols, bar soap, jigsaw puzzles (with large amount of pieces), hardback books, VHS tapes, and lap robes – please!!
